Abstract In this essay, Kazuo Ishiguro’s “Bewilderment Trilogy” is read as a series of Bildungsromane that test the limits of that genre. In these thematically unrelated novels, characters reach critical points in their lives when they are confronted with the ways in which their respective childhoods have shaped their grownup expectations and professional careers. In each, the protagonist has a successful career, whether as a musician (The Unconsoled), a detective (When We Were Orphans), or a carer (Never Let Me Go), but finds it difficult to overcome childhood trauma. The contribution presents a new acquisition for the catalog of Fernando Yáñez, a Holy Family dating back to 1523, shedding new light on the artist?s production in the third decade of the sixteenth century during his return to Almedina, his birthplace, in a time frame that divides the works for Valencia, like the retablo mayor for the city?s cathedral, from his altarpieces for Cuenca.

When writing his 1997 play Give Me Your Answer, Do!, Brian Friel made an “exciting discovery”: Harpocrates, the God of Silence. For a writer who had been so much at pains to show on stage the inability of words to communicate the innermost feelings, this infant god was readily embraced as the perfect symbol with which to begin and end, as in the Ancient Rome, this transcendent performance. By placing the character of Bridget, an inarticulate autistic girl, at the beginning and at the ending of Give Me Your Answer, Do!, Friel counterbalances the “sound and the fury” that pervades modern life as reflected in the three couples of the play, while, at the same time, this reminds the audience of …

This article analyses the impact of classical tradition on the artistic production of Gregorio Prieto (1897-1992), painter par excellence of the Generation of 1927. It will be discovered how this influence, far from becoming a conservative reference, would constitute an incentive for his entailment with the avant-garde, especially with surrealism. Although the classic trace is found with more intensity in the creations produced during his Roman years, between 1928 and 1929, when he also made important trips to Sicily and Greece, Greece and Rome would nevertheless continue to be constitutive of his aesthetic experience throughout his later and extensive career.

Three artists in exile focuses on the historical diaspora provoked by the Spanish civil war (1936- 1939), and how it influenced three prominent figures of the cultural scene of that period: the writer and typographer Max Aub Mohrenwitz (Paris, 1903-Ciudad de Mexico, 1972); the architect Félix Candela Outeriño (Madrid, 1910-Raleigh, US, 1977); and the artist Josep Renau Berenguer (Valencia, 1907-Berlín, 1982). After the patrimonial destruction that took place during the Civil War of 1936-1939 in the city of Cartagena, religious art and especially sacred sculpture, is greatly affected. The artistic expressions that the Passionist entities took to the streets on the days of Holy Week, disappear almost in their entirety, having to start a tremendously costly reconstruction process in order to alleviate the losses suffered. The Cofradía California commissioned the renovation of its sculptural patrimony heritage, which came to replace the wealth of the works of Salzillo, to the Valencian artist Mariano Benlliure Gil.
